Miami-Dade Corrections Health Services (CHS) operates under Jackson Health System (JHS) and serves approximately 5,000 patients daily. Patient care is delivered by nearly 400 healthcare employees representing a diverse multidisciplinary team of nurses & nurse support staff, physicians, psychiatrists, social workers and other professionals. CHS supports Miami Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation at 3 facilities in Miami-Dade County and leverages the resources of a large public safety net health system in the areas of education, quality, risk management & compliance.

Summary

  • The Health Services Administrator is a professional correctional administrator who manages and evaluates the delivery of CHS programs in accordance with national, state and local standards and regulations.
  • Ensures program activities are based upon goals and objectives of Jackson Health System and the Miami Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department and are compliant with ACA, NCCHC and FCAC standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures adequate and contractual staffing at institutions to meet the needs of the inmate population.
  • Review status of inmates ensuring all necessary intervention and treatment is completed, according to guidelines.
  • Oversees the utilization of special housing, infirmary beds and outside inpatient and outpatient services for appropriateness.
  • Ensures compliance with NCCHC standards in all operational components of the jail health care delivery.
  • Promotes quality improvement by actively participating in the quality of care screening audits.
  • Meets regularly with designated facility superintendent and jail administration on a quarterly basis with established agenda for discussion.
  • Investigates and responds to inmate/family grievances and risk management issues.
  • Role models behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • The leader understands and adheres to JHS compliance standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct, Compliance Policies, and all other JHS Policies and Procedures and supports the commitment of JHS in adhering to federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations governing ethical business practices for health care providers by demonstrating knowledge of procedures for protecting and maintaining security, confidentiality and integrity of employee, patient, family and organization information.
  • The leader further understands that JHS is committed to its role in preventing health care fraud and abuse and complying with applicable state and federal laws related to health care fraud and abuse.
  • This commitment is supported and enabled through an anonymous hotline which serves as one of several mechanisms for reporting suspected fraud, waste and/or abuse, as well as other compliance related issues.
  • The leader to report through any of the reporting mechanisms (e.g., anonymous hotline, supervisor, Compliance Officer) any suspected health care fraud, waste and/or abuse as well as other compliance-related issues.
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

Generally requires 7 to 10 years of related experience. Management experience is required.

Education

Bachelor's degree in related field is required

Ability to establish goals and objectives. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Unit Specific Competencies: Must obtain and maintain level two security clearance. Sound decision-making skills are mandatory. This is a management position that requires on-call and working some weekends.
