JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the Radiologists, Physicians Assistants, and Imaging Technologists with daily activities of the healthcare facility. The Medical Assistant performs their assigned duties under the supervision of a physician. They are responsible for administrative as well as clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, assisting physicians with exams, and performing front-desk tasks. Additional duties include maintaining adequate supplies in exam rooms, answering telephone inquiries, data entry and laundry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

This position requires regular, reliable attendance. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, as the consequences of even a minor mistake can be significant for patients and providers. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Properly identifies patients using at least two data points (name, date of birth, etc.)

  2. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit.

  3. Prepare patients for the health care visit by directing and/or assisting them to the changing and procedure rooms.

  4. Maintains adequate medical supplies and instruments in exam rooms.

  5. Prepares and cleans examination rooms between patients using universal cleaning protocols.

  6. Wash, fold, and stock laundry per laundry protocols

  7. Prepares trays for procedures per protocol.

  8. Sterilizes medical instruments per protocol.

  9. Accurately complete records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results as per standard operating procedures.

  10. Records patients' vital signs including height, weight, pulse, blood pressure, blood oxygen saturation, and respirations.

  11. Process and document patient symptoms for physicians' review during clinical exams

  12. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.

  13. Successfully completes all annual competencies.

  14. Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience in a health care setting is preferred but on the job training may be provided. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. CPR certification required

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

These typical physical demands are required with or without accommodations.

Requires full range of body motion.

Stationary position

Must be able to remain in a standing position for up to 95% of a workday.

Move, Transport

  • Frequently moves patients, patients in wheelchairs, Gurney, Hoyer Lift, Gimme-A-Lift device, diagnostic devices, and patient care supplies of varying weight and occasionally moves paper/boxes of varying weight normally up to up to 50 pounds.

Move or Transverse

  • Constantly moves about the inside of the office/exam rooms for patient care and to access supplies and various diagnostic/ office machinery, etc.

Operate, Activate, Use, Prepare, Inspect, Place, Detect, Position

  • Constantly operates diagnostic machines and/or other office productivity machinery, such as a computer, I-pad, copy machine, printer etc.

Communicate, Detect, Converse with, Discern, Convey, Express oneself, Exchange information, Monitor

  • Frequently communicate with physicians, patients and coworkers who have questions about exams, preparations, or other patient care needs.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Detect, Determine, Monitor, perceive, Identify, Recognize, Judge, Observe, Inspect, Estimate, Assess

  • Must be able to visually see patient to position or assist and identify changes in patient's wellbeing.
  • Must have the ability to read orders or other communications on the patient's and clinic's behalf.

Exposure to work

  • Normally works indoors.
  • Occasionally will take patients outdoors in the event we are using mobile scanners or transporting items to laboratories.
