What You'll Do:

This position is in the Bureau of Maternal, Child, and Family Health's Oral Health Program. The program was built to prevent oral diseases, help Ohioans of all ages get the dental care they need, and monitor the oral health of Ohioans through collecting, analyzing, and sharing oral health data. Strategies include supporting community water fluoridation, school-based sealant programs, and helping other health professionals, such as physicians and nurses, improve the oral health of their patients. The program works to ensure that oral health is seen as an essential part of health. This position:

  • Participates in conducting analytical studies of oral health status, quality of oral health services, and the use and/or access of oral health care services to inform oral health policy, program development and strategic planning;
  • Coordinates and/or collaborates with other partners so that policy and program development at the state and local levels effectively address the oral health needs of Ohioans across the lifespan and reflect evidence-based and/or research informed practices;
  • Assists in designing and carrying out health research projects;
  • Collects, analyzes, and compiles qualitative and quantitative data from multiple sources;
  • Prepares statistical and narrative reports and presents research products for use in policy and administrative decision making.

Position Qualifications:

Completion of undergraduate core coursework AND 12 mos. exp. in one of following: health services administration, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, public administration, allied health sciences, nursing, economics, public health, or comparable field AND 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in research methodology, measurement & testing, analysis of variance & survey sampling AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in use of computer programs/applications used for spreadsheets, statistical analysis & graphics presentation & word processing AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in multiple regression or multivariate analysis.

  • Or completion of graduate core coursework in health services administration, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, public administration, allied health sciences, nursing, economics or comparable field AND 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in research methodology, measurement & testing, analysis of variance & survey sampling AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in use of computer programs/applications used for spreadsheets, statistical analysis & graphics presentation & word processing AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in multiple regression or multivariate analysis.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
  • Applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against the following criteria:
  • Graduate or advanced degree in health services administration, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, public administration, allied health sciences, nursing or economics
  • Expertise and experience in survey design and designing data collection tools
  • Expertise and experience in applying statistical analysis to datasets
  • Expertise and experience in using SAS, SPSS or other statistical software packages to perform data analysis
  • Experience developing statistical and narrative reports which summarize primary and secondary data for professional and lay audiences
  • Experience and expertise to find, extract, compile, validate, integrate and critically interpret data from multiple sources
  • Experience in public speaking and presenting training
  • Experience and expertise in presenting data visually in easy-to-understand ways
  • Experience working well in teams and independently
